Information about midwives

How do I find a midwife, and what do I need her for?

A midwife can provide valuable support throughout your pregnancy, around the time of the birth and during the early weeks with your baby. We therefore recommend that you start looking for a midwife right at the start of your pregnancy.

The situation is particularly tight in Bavaria at the moment, as many midwives are working to full capacity. If you get in touch early on, you’ll increase your chances of finding a midwife who can support you during the postnatal period and, if needed, even during your pregnancy.

Care from a midwife is not compulsory, but rather a recommendation. If you already have children and feel confident, or if you do not wish to receive support, you are of course free to decide for yourself whether you would like to use the services of a midwife.

For patients with statutory health insurance, the services of a midwife – in particular postnatal care – are covered by the statutory health insurance scheme.

How to find a midwife

The Bavaria-wide midwife search tool offers a simple way to find one:

www.hebammensuche.bayern

Enter your expected due date and your postcode there. Depending on availability, you will be shown suitable midwives in your area. (Hebammensuche Bayern)

Our midwife at the practice

At our practice, too, our midwife, Ms Theresa Schiedeck, is on hand to support you. She will be there to offer you advice and practical support throughout your pregnancy and also provides postnatal care.

We recommend that you arrange midwifery care well in advance – so that you can enjoy this special time with the right support.
